Mobile app design
Beautiful, intuitive mobile app interfaces designed around how people actually use their phones.

Great apps feel effortless. We design mobile app interfaces that are clean, fast to navigate and a pleasure to use — whether it's for your customers or your own team.

Where AI sometimes fits in an app
In the background, mostly: writing summaries of reviews, sorting support messages into the right bucket, or generating a first draft of a reply for someone to check. It is not a reason to build an app. If the app is only worth building because you could put AI in it, it's very probably not worth building.
An app, or a very good website?
This is the first question, and often the answer is no. If people need something once a month, a fast mobile website does the same job with none of the cost. Apps earn their place when there's genuine repeat use, something the browser genuinely can't do, or an offline requirement. We'll tell you if a website is enough, even though that means a smaller project.
Designed for one-handed, distracted use
People use apps on buses, in shops, holding a toddler. That changes the design: big targets high on the screen, no tiny text, nothing that needs two hands, and a clear way out of anything you've wandered into. Designing for a desktop and shrinking it is how you get an app nobody opens twice.
Getting it in front of people
The app is the easy part; the review process isn't. We'll build to the store's guidelines from the start rather than getting rejected and reworking. We'll also make sure it's findable on Google — a large share of app discovery happens through search, not the store.
Performance is the whole game
An app that takes five seconds to open feels broken. We keep it light, cache what it can, and make it work on an older phone on a poor connection, because that's what a good chunk of your customers actually have.
Launching and then living with it
The first version matters less than the six months after it launches, when you find out what people actually struggle with. We plan for updates from the start, and tell you what the ongoing work will involve before you commit, not after.
What’s included
- User experience designed around real tasks
- Clean, modern interface design
- Prototypes you can test before building
- iOS and Android conventions respected
- Design handover for developers
Why it matters
- An app people enjoy using
- Fewer taps to get things done
- A clear vision before a line of code
Often useful alongside this
- Website design if what you need is a fast mobile website, which is often the cheaper and better answer.
- An app for your staff if the app is for people doing the job rather than customers.
- An app for your customers if there's a genuine reason for them to keep opening it.
Common questions
- How much does a mobile app cost?
- It depends on what it does, and we won't quote a number that isn't tied to a real specification. Tell us what you're trying to achieve and we'll give you a written estimate, including whether a website would do the job first.
- Android or iPhone first?
- Usually the platform your customers actually use, which is worth checking rather than assuming. We'd rather you spent the budget on the right device than half of it on the wrong one.
- How long does it take?
- A focused app is typically eight to twelve weeks including testing and store submission. Anything more complex takes longer, and we'll be specific about the milestones.
- Will it pass the app store review?
- We build to the current guidelines from the start, which is the best way to avoid rejection. We submit for you and deal with any feedback that comes back.
- Do I need to keep paying to maintain it?
- Apps need updating when the operating systems they run on change, so some ongoing work is unavoidable. We'll tell you what that involves up front rather than surprising you with it later.
